About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. Their name is derived from the Latin word meaning "all all-encompassing," the group was determined to explore every style of music.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name throughout the world.
After a hiatus of a couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is different from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name an entirely different producer. The lead vocalist Fergie Frederiksen is let go and replaced by Joseph Williams, son of legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.

After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped away from the stage. This gave the individual members of the band a chance to pursue solo projects. In 1996, the band reformed to tour and record an album. It was the first time in over a decade that all the original band members were on stage.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time that all original members of Toto were on stage together. The band broke up after this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in over 31 year that all Toto's original members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto has remained one of the most adored rock bands for over three decades, scoring massive hits such as "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X platinum smash, "Africa." With a variety of influences, ranging from progressive rock to world rhythms to jazz and soul The group continues to delight fans with their energetic arena rock.
Despite their acclaim the group had to face a number of difficulties in their later years. In 2002 the drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group, and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence due to health issues. Drummer Shem von Schroeck took over and the band was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, a series of lineup changes as well as a series of albums that were disappointing led Toto to call it quits for a few years. The group returned to the road in 2012 after the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album marked a return to form for the band and the tour supported it with sold-out shows across North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was made more exciting by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, who had both rejoined the band.
Toto's music remains as relevant as it was in the 70s and 80s and is growing in popularity with every new generation. Their success has made them a long-lasting presence in pop culture, and their live performances are always filled with energy and excitement.
